Gijón, 30 May 2024. Following the path marked just over a year ago with the migration of Posidonia PCS to the cloud, the Port Authority of Gijón has done the same with Posidonia Management, its Port Management System or PMS.
The PMS is a programme for the internal management of the port that aims to facilitate and optimise the administrative aspects involved in the port dynamics, such as invoicing, management of the public domain, technical-nautical services, etc.
Although the Port Authority already worked with the Prodevelop system, it did so under the on-premise option. The change to the cloud once again puts the Port of Gijón in the limelight, highlighting its innovative and avant-garde culture. By taking this step, the Asturian port embraces digitalisation and makes it its own in order to take advantage of the multiple advantages that this entails.
As was the case with the previous migration, the change has been carried out quickly and without incident for the port itself or the port community.
“The digitisation of ports is mandatory to face the new challenges ahead of us”, says Blanca Girón, Digitalisation and IT Manager at the Port of Gijón, “after a year working with Posidonia PCS in the cloud and enjoying the advantages it brings us, the next logical step was to do it with Posidonia Management”.
Software as a Service (SaaS), is becoming increasingly important within organisations as it generally provides greater control over spending, does not require large investments in infrastructure and allows access from anywhere, as long as there is an internet connection.
When we asked Miguel Montesinos, CEO of Prodevelop, he told us “Opting for the implementation of solutions under the SaaS model is a clear indication of the avant-garde character of an organisation, which is capable of understanding and interpreting where the market is heading”.
Hosting is carried out on AWS, which guarantees correct operation and high security standards, which are reinforced by the certifications that Prodevelop provides in this area, such as its ENS medium security certificate or ISO 20000 or 27001.
In this way, the Port Authority of Gijón is transferring all these advantages to its own clients and to the port all the advantages of having reliable technological partners.
