Why do Smart Cities appear?
More than half of the world’s population lives in cities, with the United Nations forecasting that 70% of human beings will live in urban centres by 2050, and in developed countries this figure could reach 85.9% of the population. Overcrowding in cities can become a real problem, unless harmony between the spatial, social and environmental aspects of localities, as well as between their inhabitants, can be maintained.
One of the great challenges facing cities is to plan, manage and govern cities in a sustainable way, maximising economic opportunities and minimising environmental damage.
What is a Smart City?
A Smart City is an innovative city that combines technology with information to improve decision-making, operational efficiency, the provision of public services and their competitiveness, plus the quality of life of its citizens.
