Digitalization and IoT in the Cypriot port ecosystem
The Port of Limassol, Cyprus’s main gateway for container cargo, is undergoing a full process of automation and digital transformation. Within this context, the aerOS pilot implements a scalable IoT–Edge–Cloud infrastructure that will connect more than 200 devices in the coming years, creating an intelligent, distributed operational environment.
Use cases: predictive maintenance and risk prevention through computer vision
The pilot, titled Smart Edge Services for the Port Continuum, addresses two key use cases:

Predictive maintenance for Container Handling Equipment (CHE), including Straddle Carriers and Ship-To-Shore (STS) cranes.

Risk prevention via computer vision at the edge, improving safety in terminal operations.
These scenarios rely on an advanced architecture combining industrial IoT sensors, frugal AI models and edge computing, enabling local data processing without the need for high bandwidth consumption.
