Web-GIS clients are projects which allow access to geospatial information in Web environments. These types of products are used to build anything from simple Web viewers, to complete geoportals, and even editing tools via Web.
The world of Web Map clientes is the most dynamic and fertile within the different categories of geospatial technologies.
Prodevelop has experience in project development with the following Web-GIS clients:
OpenLayers is a project developed by the American company MetaCarta, that has come to form part of the projects incubated in OSGeo. OpenLayers is a Web-GIS client besed on a Javascript library, without dependence on specific map servers.
It offers a simplified user interface which works with the WMS and WFS services in a transparent way for users and developers. OpenLayers’ most outstanding characteristics during its diffusion in the community were its simplicity of use, the support of tiles and cache and the access to maps from Google Maps and Yahoo Maps.
MapMapFish is a web 2.0 mapping application composed of two parts: MapFish Client and MapFish Server. MapFish client is a JavaScript framework based on OpenLayers for the mapping part and on ExtJS for the GUI part (widgets).
MapFish Server allows the creation and management of several modules which can be implemented in programming languages such as Python, Java, PHP.
Mapbender has been developed by a group of programmers and companies lead by the German organization WhereGroup.
Web-GIS client built with Javascript, which offers a configurable user interface that isn’t dependent on any specific map server. It allows interaction with the WMS, WFS(-T) and WMC services. It includes administration interfaces for users, groups and OGC (OWS) services. One of Mapbender’s distinguishing characteristics is that it constitutes a complete geoportal, with some very powerful configuration and administration facilities.
Mapbender is an official project of the OSGeo Foundation, with a fairly open community with a large presence in Germany.
