gvSIG Mobile

gvSIG Mobile is a project aimed at making a free and open source GIS/SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure) client available on mobile devices. It came about as a result of the gvSIG desktop project, which is an advanced desktop GIS/SDI client.

gvSIG Mobile

gvSIG Mobile is a smaller version of gvSIG which has been adapted for use in mobile devices. It supports shape files, GPX, KML, GML, ECW, WMS, WFS and images and is able to make use of GPS systems. It supports functionalities such as projects management, the visualization of local and remote information (via WMS and WFS), layer management (symbology), the query of alphanumeric information of the elements, data editing through custom forms, the generation of GPS tracklogs/waypoints, etc.

There is an extension available for gvSIG Desktop which allows cartographic information to be exported from gvSIG Desktop to gvSIG Mobile.

gvSIG Mobile is an integral part of the gvSIG project, they have a common code base and there are common developers for both products.

gvSIG was headed by the Valencian Autonomous Government, through the Regional Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport, and has been developed by various organizations. Prodevelop fronted the project’s development, with collaboration from the Robotics Institute of the University of Valencia and Iver Tecnologías de la Information. It is released under the GNU/GPL license.
